The Universal Postal Union (UPU) has announced the 2026 theme for its legendary International Letter-Writing Competition. For its 55th edition, the UPU is partnering with the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNESCO to address one of the most pressing social issues of our time: the importance of real-world relationships in a technology-driven age.

Why This Theme?
In a world of instant messaging and AI, the UPU wants young people to reflect on how technology can sometimes deepen feelings of isolation. This year's prompt encourages students to explore how a simple, handwritten letter can foster empathy, kindness, and authentic bonds that transcend screens and time zones.
Competition Rules
- Eligibility: Young people aged 9 to 15 years.
- Format: Submissions must be in the form of a handwritten letter.
- Word Limit: Maximum of 800 words.
- Prizes: Global winners receive gold, silver, and bronze medals. Many national postal services (like India Post) also offer significant cash prizes for circle and national winners.
How to Participate
Students cannot submit letters directly to the UPU. You must enter through your national postal operator. Most national deadlines fall between March and May 2026. For participants in India, entries are typically organized through schools and submitted to local Postal Circles by late March.
