On 25 November 2025, POST Philately warmed up the year's end with the Christmas 2025 stamps of Luxembourg — a pair of designs by the British artist Ben Carter, who lives in Luxembourg, capturing the special atmosphere of the Grand Duchy's traditional Christmas markets. Two stamps — Luxembourg City (€1.30) and Esch-sur-Alzette (€1.85) — were issued, each also available as a sheet of 12 stamps with decorated borders.
The Magic of Christmas
This year's stamps to mark the end-of-year celebrations depict the special atmosphere of Luxembourg's Christmas markets, which are steeped in tradition. Ben Carter is well-known for his distinctive style, which combines clear, architectural imagery with atmospheric scenes. His designs for these stamps convey a discreet festive mood whilst remaining stylish and balanced.
Luxembourg City: The Winterlights Ferris Wheel
The Luxembourg City motif depicts as its central element the Ferris wheel that has become the shining emblem of the 'Winterlights' market during the Advent period. In the background, the Gëlle Fra war memorial and the cathedral Notre-Dame rise as impressive symbols of the capital city in a wintery Christmas scene.
Esch-sur-Alzette: The Christmas Pyramid
The €1.85 Esch-sur-Alzette stamp: the traditional Christmas pyramid in front of the festively illuminated city hall.
For Esch-sur-Alzette, Carter has placed the characteristic Christmas pyramid centre stage, as emblematic of the joy of the Advent season and tradition. Here again, one of the city's familiar buildings, the city hall, is depicted in a festive manner, highlighting the special charm of the weeks in the runup to Christmas.
The Sheets of 12
Each stamp was also issued as a decorative sheet ("feuillet") of 12 stamps, surrounded by festive, decorated borders. The sheets showcase the full beauty of both artworks on the printed page — an ideal format for framing or for collectors who prefer whole sheets.

The Esch-sur-Alzette sheet of 12 stamps with decorated borders (€22.20).
A Glow in the Dark Surprise
Beyond the elegant artwork, the issue hides a little philatelic magic of its own: both stamps and sheets are printed with offset lithography, four-colour printing and a special glow-in-the-dark colour. By night, the festive motifs take on an extra, luminous dimension — a fitting touch for the darkest weeks of the year.
In complete darkness, the Luxembourg City sheet's special glow-in-the-dark colour brings the Winterlights scene to life.
