The World's First Multilateral Crypto Stamp

In October, the international Crypto stamp family is joined by another mythical creature — the Dragon. And not just any Dragon: four of them, making this the world's first multilateral Crypto stamp. Alongside the Netherlands (PostNL) and Luxembourg (POST Luxembourg), Belgium (bpost) is now on board for the first time — which means that alongside Austria, all Benelux countries are now represented.

Each of the four countries issues its own physical Crypto stamp with an individual Dragon design. When the stamps are placed next to each other, they reveal a shared motif in the background. Each motif is available in the five characteristic Crypto stamp colours, assigned at random — meaning there are a total of 20 digital twins in addition to the four physical Diamond-grade Crypto stamps themselves.

The Four Dragons

Twenty Digital Twins

As with previous Crypto stamp editions, every physical Dragon stamp carries an NFC chip and is paired with a digital twin (NFT) on the blockchain. Each of the four Dragon motifs comes in the five characteristic Crypto stamp colours — Black, Green, Blue, Yellow and Red — assigned at random when a stamp is activated and revealed. Four motifs × five colours = 20 digital twins, adding a colourful layer of collectability and rarity-chasing on top of the physical stamps.

From Bilateral to Multilateral: How We Got Here

The Dragon marks the third milestone in the international Crypto stamp story, which began in 2022 with a double premiere: Austrian Post's digital stamp appeared for the first time in cooperation with PostNL, and the joint issue was state of the art in terms of technology, bringing its owners an extraordinary virtual feature — Augmented Reality.

Both Crypto stamps showcased the same motif — the Bull. It was no coincidence that the well-known statue of the "Charging Bull" stands near the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street: in the financial realm the bull is the international symbol for rising share prices, known colloquially as a bull market. The country-specific details were revealed by the background: the Austrian stamp appeared in the national colours red-white-red with the edelweiss — the alpine flower protected in Austria since 1886 — while its Dutch counterpart carried a tulip pattern on a red-white-blue background.

In autumn 2023, the first trilateral joint issue arrived. With POST Luxembourg joining, the Crypto stamp 5.1 Lion appeared simultaneously in Austria, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. The three stamps depicted the topographical features of the respective countries — mountains for Austria, water for the Netherlands, forests for Luxembourg — and, placed next to one another, formed a common motif in the background. The Lion, king of the animal world, graced all three stamps, each from a different perspective. It carried on the success of the Crypto stamp Safe, which transforms Crypto stamps 5.0 and 5.1 into surprising new motifs.

Why Collectors Care

The Dragon is a milestone in international collaboration and digital philately. Never before have four national postal administrations joined forces on a single phygital stamp programme. For thematic collectors, the shared-motif concept — evolved from the 2022 Bull and the 2023 Lion — makes the four-stamp set a compelling multi-country collecting challenge, while the random colour assignment keeps every activation exciting. It is also one of the most accessible ways to enter Web3 collecting: a physical stamp with a digital twin, no crypto expertise required.
