On 14 July 2026, PostNL issued the stamp sheet nijntje en nina op vakantie (nijntje and nina on holiday), featuring 2 different stamps with silver in a luxury presentation that includes a certificate of authenticity. This is the first time PostNL has created a stamp sheet with two silver stamps — until now, the postal operator has only issued single stamps embellished with silver.
The edition is limited to keep the issue exclusive, making it a sought-after piece for collectors of PostNL silver and gold issues, children's themes, and Collect Club releases alike. Available through the PostNL Collect Club webshop at €75.00, the sheet is a striking addition to any collection.
About nijntje
nijntje (Miffy) is a drawn white rabbit who plays the lead role in a series of books by Dick Bruna, created for toddlers and preschoolers. Full name nijntje pluis, the rabbit lives with a father and mother, a grandpa and grandma, and friends such as betje big and boris beer. The stories usually describe small adventures in and around the house.
The rabbit, the other figures, and all the objects are drawn in their essence with clean lines, so that they almost become pictograms. The black contour lines, drawn with a brush, are filled in with a limited number of bright colours. nijntje always looks the reader straight in the eye, and emotions are shown through small adjustments to the eyes and mouth — a style that has made the character an icon of minimal, child-friendly illustration.
Behind the Design
Mercis bv holds a database of more than 4,000 Dick Bruna illustrations. At Mercis bv, Mariëlla Ostendorf, manager Special Projects, guided the creation of the new stamps. Because of the release date at the beginning of summer, she landed on the theme 'vakantie' (holiday).
Ostendorf: "For the shortlist I sent to the designer, I searched for summery drawings with a cheerful look. The drawing on the stamps of nijntje with the spade and bucket comes from the book nijntje aan zee, as do the shells and the kites on the stamp sheet and the packaging. The drawing of nina, the brown bunny, comes from the book nijntje en nina."

Why This Issue Matters
The nijntje en nina op vakantie sheet is a milestone in PostNL's silver stamp programme: for the first time, the post office has produced a sheet containing two silver stamps, previously only single stamps with silver were issued. Combined with the timeless appeal of Dick Bruna's illustrations and the nostalgic summer theme, this makes for a genuinely special collectible.
For collectors of Dutch stamps, silver and gold issues, children's themes, or Collect Club limited editions, this sheet is a must-have. The crafted silver accents, the story behind each drawing, and the luxury presentation with its signed certificate of authenticity make it a highlight of PostNL's 2026 programme.
