On 2 March 2026, Deutsche Post released a very special Markenset (stamp set): ten self-adhesive stamps to the value of €0.95 each — ideal for franking standard letters up to 20 g and postcards within Germany. But the striking feature of this issue goes far beyond the colourful design: every stamp is printed with interactive codes that play music when read with a pen from Ravensburger's tiptoi® range.
The Motif: An Icon of Pop Culture
When its creator Stephen Hillenburg (1961–2018) sketched his figure — a yellow, box-shaped sponge with bulging eyes and protruding front teeth — nobody could have predicted how iconic it would become. In 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants received its own animated series, which continues to this day and has produced numerous cinema films. The German premiere followed on 23 August 2002 on Super RTL.
SpongeBob lives in a pineapple in the underwater town of Bikini Bottom and is known for his bubbling cheerfulness and optimism, his naivety and his almost intrusive helpfulness. Thanks to the combination of child-friendly humour and clever allusions for adults, the series is regarded as a genuine classic of popular culture. One of its messages is the importance of friendship — celebrated on this special stamp, which shows SpongeBob together with his faithful friends Patrick and Sandy.
Printed with Interactive tiptoi® Codes
The stamps are printed with interactive codes. When read with the tiptoi® pen from Ravensburger, they bring out the music of SpongeBob's exciting world at Bikini Bottom — turning a quiet sheet of stamps into a mini sound toy. As with all Ravensburger tiptoi® products, the audio plays when the pen is pressed on the START button icon.
Getting the Audio onto Your tiptoi® Pen
To enjoy the interactive sound, you first need a tiptoi® pen (available from Ravensburger.de) and the corresponding audio file for this stamp. The setup is simple:
A dedicated charger station can also transfer the audio file to the pen, but it is not necessary: the USB method works with any PC.
